Date Night: 7 Cheap Date Ideas

It can be hard to come up with ideas of how you and your partner should spend time together, as funds for such an occasion are practically non existent. However, we believe that always finding time for your partner is one of the most important aspects of being in a relationship, which is why we’ve come up with a few ways you can spend time together without breaking your budget.

1. Cinema

The cinema can be a little bit of an expensive option if you’re trying to stick to a budget but there are plenty of ways to keep costs down. There are heaps of promotions that involve discounted tickets, or two for the price of one offers which can help massively in keeping costs to a minimum. Skip the expensive cinema snacks and share a drink instead. You can always make something to eat for each other back home!

2. Coffee

If you’re stumped when it comes to inexpensive date ideas then simply think back to the earliest scenes of dating your significant other. We’re willing to bet that it involved meeting up for coffee at some point, which is why reliving these important baby steps of your relationship is such a sweet thing to do. Grab a hot drink and spend some quality time with each other.

3. Going for a walk

Cheap dates don’t come cheaper than a walk. Either take a stroll through your neighbouring countryside or jump in the car and head to somewhere decidedly more hilly to really get your paces racing. Studies even show that exercising together can be beneficial for your relationship, and Rhonda Milrad, a relationships counsellor and founder of the app RelationUp, explains that working out together can inspire a sense of camaraderie. This means you and your partner immediately think of one another when it comes to doing exciting outdoor activities, creating even more memories with one another.

To make this option even more romantic you could pack a specially prepared picnic, which, depending on the weather conditions, could be eaten outside or in the comfort of your heated car. Not such a fan of hiking and only have an evening to spare for your date? In that case, you could take a short nighttime stroll hand in hand through your local neighbourhood, and the nighttime setting means you can both do a little stargazing.

4. Check out a local museum or art gallery

It’s free, interesting and educational. The majority of museums and galleries require no entry fee and you can entertain yourself with a wide range of different information that will supply you and your partner with plenty to talk about and share in the future.

5. Head to a local concert

If live music is your thing but your funds won’t stretch to seeing your favourite artists then take the plunge and buy two tickets for a local band that you haven’t listened to before. The best scenario is that you both discover an artist that you love, whose growth you can follow for the low price of the local entry tickets. The worst case scenario is that you and your partner have a few drinks and laugh at the appalling music, dancing along and making one another bend over in hysterics.

6. Home movie

One of the best budget dates is the simplest option; staying at home and cuddling up. However, it doesn’t have to be the usual dinner on your lap as you both stare at the television screen affair, which can hardly be classified as a date. Instead, make a special effort to make this evening stand out by planning in advance. Choose a film you’ve both been looking forward to for a while and buy some of your partner’s favourite movie snacks. Dim the lights, stick on some candles and grab some blankets. You can always pretend you’re in the back row of the cinema . . .

7. Cook together

The way to many people’s hearts is through their stomach, but sometimes we just don’t have the funds for a meal for two in a nice restaurant. But never fear, one of the best cheap date night ideas is cooking for one another, so get the recipe books and pick a meal you’ve both always wanted to tackle. Pair it with an inexpensive bottle of wine, a few candles and some romantic music and you’re all set.
